While in school you will take ROTC courses for a few hours a
week. ROTC courses fulfill elective requirements at most colleges.
You can try ROTC for
up to two years without making any commitment to join the Army.
After graduating with your officer's commission, you will serve in
either the active Army, the Army National Guard, or the Army Reserve
or a combination for a total of eight years.

About 40,000 students participate each year at hundreds of colleges
and universities nationwide. More than 20 percent
of all current ROTC cadets are women.
Army ROTC training teaches leadership and management skills that will
serve you well during your college career and beyond. ROTC builds
confidence and teaches the planning and time-management skills
needed to succeed in college and the leadership, management, and
motivational skills critical to success in life. Army ROTC provides a
competitive edge that will be of value in either a military or
civilian career.
Among other benefits, Army ROTC offers competitive merit-based
scholarships that can help pay tuition and on-campus
educational expenses as well as a personal allowance. Many of these scholarships are specifically
targeted to students pursuing degrees in engineering, nursing, the
physical sciences, or other technical programs.
