Sourcebooks - The Complete Scholarship Book
Sourcebooks, Inc. publishes a 604-page book entitled The Complete Scholarship Book (ISBN 1-57071-127-5). This book definitely lives up to its title. With 5,047 listings, it has more than twice as many listings as any other scholarship book. Half of the awards, however, are college-specific. Even so, with more than 2,400 portable awards, this book is one of the largest. It includes listings for many unusual scholarships not found in other books, such as the National Pork Fellowship or the American Welding Society Scholarship. The book also includes a set of 52 good tips for finding financial aid. The book is based on the FastWeb scholarship database compiled by FastWeb LLC.

The only problem with this book is in the way the awards are organized. Although the book includes a set of subject indexes and uses a clever set of graphical icons to help students visually identify scholarships that match their background, it badly needs a sponsor index. The awards are listed alphabetically by program title, making it hard to find specific award programs. For example, the Hertz Foundation Fellowship is listed under F for "Fannie and John Hertz Foundation Fellowship", the Automotive Hall of Fame Scholarship is listed under "Scholarship Program", and the National Physical Sciences Consortium Fellowship is listed under "Graduate Fellowships for Women and Minorities in the Physical Sciences".

The cost of the book is $22.95. To place an order, call 1-800-43-BRIGHT or 1-708-961-3900, fax 1-708-961-2168, or write to Sourcebooks, Inc., PO Box 372, Naperville, IL 60566.
